General Hospital of Lam Dong Province — Phạm Ngọc Thạch street, Cam Ly ward

Đà Lạt's de-facto emergency destination, with a 24-hour emergency department. We give the street and ward but not the house number, because sources disagree on it; the street and ward match across every source. The Australian consular list records the working language as Vietnamese. For anything serious, call 115 and come here.

Phạm Ngọc Thạch Traditional Medicine Hospital

A public hospital for traditional medicine and rehabilitation. Worth naming so you do not mistake it for something else: this is not where emergencies or injuries are handled.

A warning about statistics labelled "Lâm Đồng"

After the 2025 merger, Lâm Đồng province absorbed the Bình Thuận coast and Đắk Nông, making it the largest province in Vietnam by area. That means any province-level number — dengue counts, hospital counts — is no longer a number about Đà Lạt. If you look something up and find a "Lâm Đồng" statistic, remember it may describe a place 200 km away.

Motorbike crashes on the passes — the real number-one risk here

This is the best-documented risk in Đà Lạt and it reaches foreign visitors. On 25 September 2026 on the Prenn pass, two Indian tourists riding one motorbike down towards the coast slid into the oncoming lane and hit a car head-on; one rider died and the other was seriously injured, on a road left very slippery by rain. The Mimosa pass had comparable crashes in 2022 and 2023. The common factor in all three is a descending pass with a wet surface. Note that the reporting attributes these to rain and road surface, not to fog — so do not feel safe simply because visibility is good.

Not altitude sickness — cold and damp at night

At around 1,500 m, Đà Lạt is well below the elevation at which altitude sickness normally occurs, so that is not something to plan around. What visitors do get wrong is the day-to-night temperature swing: nights are markedly cold, especially if you have just come up from the coast and packed for it.

Road-rash wounds are something we do a lot of here

Extensive grazes, exhaust burns, soft-tissue wounds that need proper cleaning and repeated dressing changes, stitches out, physiotherapy after an injury. This is exactly the group of things that should not mean a hospital trip every time, and we do it where you are staying.

Language

The Australian consular list records the provincial hospital's working language as Vietnamese, and the UK list describes one private facility here as having limited English. If you go to a local facility, bring your history and medication list written out in English.

Mosquitoes and water

The US CDC lists dengue as a year-round risk across much of Vietnam and advises bite prevention. On malaria, the Central Highlands appears on the CDC's list of provinces where chemoprophylaxis is recommended — but the risk is in rural and forested areas, not the city centre. If you will be spending days in the forest, ask a travel-medicine doctor before you go.
