Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital — 19 Yersin

This is the city's de-facto emergency destination. The Australian consular list records its working language as Vietnamese, so plan for interpreting or bring a written history. For the red flags — heavy bleeding, breathing difficulty, chest pain, a head injury — call 115 and come here.

Diving injuries: the hyperbaric centre is in a military hospital in the city

The naval medicine department of Military Hospital 87 operates hyperbaric oxygen chambers and, according to Vietnamese state media, treated around 100 diving-injury cases in 2024 — the largest such centre in the south-central region. We deliberately do not print an address or phone number: no source we trust publishes them, and a wrong address next to the words "diving injury" is the worst kind of error to make. If you are diving, ask your dive centre and your insurer what the specific plan is BEFORE you get in the water.

Language: one private facility in the city is recorded as offering Russian

The Australian consular list records a facility in Nha Trang whose working languages include Vietnamese, English and Russian. We do not name private facilities on our own site, but noting that it exists is useful: in Nha Trang, Russian-language medical service is a real and findable thing.

Food poisoning after a seafood meal

This is documented in Nha Trang, not a hypothetical: in 2016 Khánh Hòa authorities traced an outbreak affecting 119 tourists to steamed shrimp contaminated with bacteria, and in 2024 the city had three outbreaks in under a month affecting more than 400 people. Most cases can be handled where you are staying — assessing how dehydrated you are and giving fluids if needed. But vomiting blood, black stools, severe abdominal pain or confusion mean going to a facility, not being monitored in a hotel room.

Jellyfish stings — and a very common first-aid mistake

Most stings here come from fire jellyfish: rarely life-threatening, but intensely painful with welts that last days. The Nha Trang Bay management board issues beach warnings in season. Official first aid: remove tentacles with clean tools and rinse with vinegar or SEAWATER — never with fresh water, which makes the stinging cells release more venom. Spreading swelling, vomiting, abdominal pain or low blood pressure mean going to a facility.

Diving

See the hospital section above. The thing that matters most is not which hospital but time: in decompression illness, outcome depends on first aid and on starting oxygen early. Ask your dive centre to describe their evacuation procedure specifically — not whether they have one.

Dehydration and sun

The simplest and most common case of all. A doctor comes, checks pulse, blood pressure and how dehydrated you are, and gives fluids where indicated, at your hotel. No travel required.

The things that have to be repeated

Dressing changes, stitch removal, injections by indication, post-operative monitoring, scheduled care for an older relative. We do a lot of this in Nha Trang: by our own operational measures, this is the most intensively worked location in our network for ongoing care.
