Where we work

Home doctor and nurse visits in Kon Tum

Our doctors and nurses work here in Kon Tum. They come to your hotel, homestay or home — in town around the wooden cathedral, and out towards Măng Đen and Ngọc Hồi — to examine you, put up a drip, dress a wound or look after an older relative.

This is not an emergency service. For critical situations (severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, loss of consciousness, heavy bleeding) call 115 immediately.

How we work in Kon Tum

What makes Kon Tum different from everywhere else we work is distance, and it is real distance: the region's end-of-line hospital is in Đà Nẵng, around 292 km away, and the capital of the province Kon Tum now belongs to is about 190 km away over a mountain pass. Travelling for care costs most of a day — so for anything that does not genuinely need imaging or admission, travelling is the most expensive option available to you. Our doctors and nurses live and work here, hold professional practice licences, and run the same model and the same staffing and governance standards as every other Y Tế Xanh location. We do not have a clinic you can visit in Kon Tum, so we work one way: we come to where you are. When you call, tell us the name of your accommodation and whether you are in town or out on the road towards Măng Đen or Ngọc Hồi — those directions add travel time, so we would rather give you a real time slot than a vague window.

Our people are here, in Kon Tum

Licensed doctors and nurses based in Kon Tum itself — you are not waiting for someone to drive up from Đà Nẵng or Pleiku.

What we save you is the distance

Dressing changes, stitch removal, injections by indication, IV fluids for dehydration, post-operative monitoring — all of it can be done where you are staying. And this is exactly the group of things for which, in Kon Tum, a hospital trip costs most of a day each time.

We say when you have to travel, and who to ask about where

If a case needs imaging, surgery or admission, we say so plainly — on the phone when you call. Referral here usually means out of the province; the provincial authority says so itself. So ask the hospital and your insurer's assistance line about the destination rather than assuming one.

Medicine, in a highland town

After examining you the doctor writes down exactly what is needed and the dose, using generic names so any pharmacy understands. No pharmacy in Kon Tum is documented as open 24 hours, so if you are likely to need something in the evening, say so while we are still on the phone.

Healthcare in Kon Tum: hospitals, pharmacies and choosing a specialty

This section is here so you can orient yourself in Kon Tum — which hospital handles what, where to buy medicine, and which problems do not need a hospital at all.

Kon Tum is the place in our network where knowing the medical geography in advance pays off most, because the distances here are real. After the 2025 administrative merger Kon Tum sits in Quảng Ngãi province — but that province's own capital is about 190 km away over Highway 24 and the Vi Ô Lắc pass, a road that Vietnamese business press reported in 2022 as still having over 62 km in poor condition. The region's genuine end-of-line hospital is in Đà Nẵng, roughly 292 km away. The nearest provincial-level hospital by road is in Pleiku, about 45–50 km — but that is now in a different province. Put plainly: small things can be handled where you are; anything major almost certainly means travelling a long way. That is why this is worth reading before you need it, rather than while you are in pain.

Public hospitals in Kon Tum

The provincial-level general hospital in Kon Tum — 224 Bà Triệu

This is the largest general hospital in the town and the facility that receives major accidents in the area. We give the address rather than a hospital name, deliberately: after the 2025 merger, the Quảng Ngãi health department's list of its own institutions no longer contains the old name, so we cannot establish the facility's current official name with confidence. When you call a car or ask your host, give the address — that has not changed.

Ngọc Hồi Regional General Hospital

A regional hospital out towards Ngọc Hồi and Bờ Y — the border-gate and tri-border direction. It appears on the Quảng Ngãi health department's list of institutions and is operating. If you are heading towards the border, this is closer than turning back to town.

Transfers go out of the province — ask, don't assume

In an official notice dated 25 June 2026, the Quảng Ngãi provincial authority states in its own words that transferring patients out of the province remains commonplace, and that service quality is uneven between regions. We deliberately do not name a transfer destination: no source publishes one, and guessing wrong could send someone nearly 300 km in the wrong direction. Ask the hospital directly, and ask your insurer's assistance line.

Buying medicine in Kon Tum

This is the easier part: medicine is available. The FPT Long Châu chain is genuinely present in town, with at least five stores verifiable on the chain's own site — 284 Trần Phú, 768 Phan Đình Phùng, 59 Hoàng Văn Thụ, 21–23 Võ Nguyên Giáp and 96 Phạm Văn Đồng. Beyond that, most pharmacies here are independent single-shop pharmacies, typically open around 06:00–22:00. We could not find any pharmacy in Kon Tum documented as open 24 hours, and found no Pharmacity store at all — so do not leave buying medicine until the middle of the night.

  • Long Châu's published chain hours are 06:00–23:00 and vary by store; a local directory lists these stores as 07:00–22:00 instead. If it matters, phone ahead or check the specific store on a map.
  • Antibiotics are legally prescription-only. In practice many pharmacies will sell them anyway — but in a highland region flagged for drug resistance, self-prescribing antibiotics is a particularly bad idea.
  • Ask by generic name — paracetamol, ibuprofen, loratadine, oral rehydration salts — rather than the brand you know from home. No source indicates English-speaking pharmacy staff here, so bring a written medication list and a translation app.
  • Bring the original packaging and prescription for anything you take long-term, and bring enough for the whole trip. In a highland town of this size, a specific medicine may simply not be stocked — that is a supply problem, not a paperwork one.
  • Worth knowing: in Vietnam it is against the rules to carry more than seven days of prescribed medicine (UK government travel advice), and counterfeit medicines do circulate — so for anything important, prefer a major chain or a hospital pharmacy.

Where to go for what

Emergencies and serious trauma

Call 115. Here the important decision is not which hospital but going early, because every option involves travel time. Serious cases will end up being transferred out of the province; let the hospital decide where, and call your insurance assistance line at the start so they open the case.

Motorbike crashes on the passes — the number-one risk here

The Lò Xo pass on Highway 14 (the Hồ Chí Minh Highway), on the road out towards Đà Nẵng, is a documented accident black spot — Vietnamese press calls it the "death slope". Documented rescues there have taken from half an hour to nearly three hours, with casualties carried up to the road on foot, and one spell of heavy rain left the pass impassable for four days. If you are riding long-distance through here: ride in daylight, not straight after heavy rain, and tell someone your route.

Cold nights, not altitude sickness

Kon Tum town sits at about 525 m and Măng Đen at roughly 1,200 m — well below the elevation where altitude sickness occurs, so that is not something to worry about. What visitors actually get wrong is the cold and damp at night on a highland plateau, especially if they packed for the coast.

Mosquitoes, water and mud after rain

The US CDC lists dengue as a year-round risk in much of Vietnam, and for forested, rural areas it also flags leptospirosis and melioidosis — both spread through water and muddy soil, which matters where the attractions are rivers and waterfalls like the Đăk Bla and Măng Đen. Mosquito prevention and staying out of floodwater are the two simplest, most effective things you can do.

Malaria: two CDC pages disagree — ask a travel-medicine doctor

The CDC's Vietnam destination page does list Kon Tum among the provinces where malaria chemoprophylaxis is recommended; the CDC's own malaria country table does not list it. We are not going to resolve that contradiction on your behalf: if you will be spending days in forested, rural areas, ask a travel-medicine specialist before you travel. What both pages agree on is that the risk lies in rural and forested areas, not in the town centre.

Where GreenCare fits in

We do not have a place in Kon Tum where patients come to us — our own doctors and nurses are based here and come to where you are staying. In a place where the end-of-line hospital is nearly 300 km away, where we fit into the picture above is the middle ground: the things that do not need imaging, surgery or admission, but still need someone qualified to do them properly. Being examined where you are staying, IV fluids for dehydration, dressing changes and wound review, stitches out on the right day rather than the convenient one, injections by indication, physiotherapy after an injury, and scheduled care for an older relative or someone recovering from surgery. For that group of things, coming to you is cheaper and simpler than a long trip — and more to the point, it does not cost you a day on the road. Our doctors and nurses work in Vietnamese and English; if you need another language, say so when you book and we will arrange interpreting. That is worth more here than in most places, because no source indicates any facility in Kon Tum offers a foreign-language service. And if a case does need a hospital, we tell you on the phone when you call — not after someone has already arrived.

Language

Tell us which language you need when you book. Our doctors and nurses work in Vietnamese and English; the coordinators on the 24/7 line also speak German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Korean — they take the call and arrange the visit. Where a case needs it we arrange interpreting for the visit itself, rather than leaving you to translate.

We name public hospitals only, and only to help you orient yourself — this is not our professional assessment of any facility. In an emergency, call 115 or go to the nearest emergency department first.

Frequently asked questions — Kon Tum

Do you have a clinic in Kon Tum?
No. We have no place in Kon Tum where patients come to us — our doctors and nurses are based here and come to the house, hotel or homestay where you are staying. Call ahead so we can confirm a time.
I came off a motorbike. What should I do first?
If there is heavy bleeding, loss of consciousness, drowsiness, a suspected head or spinal injury, chest pain or difficulty breathing — call 115 and get to the nearest facility immediately, without waiting for anyone. For soft-tissue wounds, a minor sprain, an exhaust burn or extensive road rash, we come and treat it where you are staying, including the dressing changes afterwards. One specific warning: the Lò Xo pass on Highway 14 is a documented accident black spot where recorded rescues have taken up to nearly three hours. Ride it in daylight and not straight after heavy rain.
Where is the nearest hospital, and where do serious cases go?
The largest general hospital in town is at 224 Bà Triệu; out towards Ngọc Hồi and Bờ Y there is Ngọc Hồi Regional General Hospital. The region's genuine end-of-line hospital is in Đà Nẵng, roughly 292 km away. On where serious cases are transferred, we deliberately do not name a destination: the provincial authority acknowledges that out-of-province referral remains common, but no source publishes a default destination. Ask the hospital and your insurer directly.
Will anyone speak English in Kon Tum?
At local facilities, assume not — no source indicates a foreign-language service here. Our own doctors and nurses work in Vietnamese and English; if you need German, Japanese, Korean, Russian or Chinese, say so when you book and we will arrange interpreting for the visit itself.
Can you provide longer-term care for an older relative here?
Yes. We schedule a nurse on a fixed rota and confirm the cost before anything starts. Tell us the expected number of days and the exact address — knowing early matters more here than elsewhere, because we hold a person for you rather than splitting shifts.

What our patients say

Absolutely fantastic experience. My wife became very poorly with a stomach bug, and they were very quick to respond on a Sunday. They sent someone over to check on her and provide her with medication and blood work. So grateful to have the service in Da Nang and would highly recommend it if you are feeling unwell and you want someone to come to you.
